Capel Choral Society is in Division 1 of the
Leith Hill Musical Festival.
This means the choir spends a significant part of its season, from
September to the Festival in April, learning the LHMF competition
music.
For the 2007 Festival the main works were C P E Bach’s Magnificat and
Henry Purcell’s Ode to St Cecilia 1692:Hail bright Cecilia.
Test passages from these works were sung in Competition with the
other choirs in Division 1.
Other works to be sung were:
Madrigal: Come Gentle Swains by Cavendish
Part Song: Water and Wine by Haydn (arr. Jacobsen)
Men's' Song: Polly Perkins by Gilbert
Women's Song: Up in the Morning by Stone
Volunteers will be asked to sing the
Ensemble Song: I drew my Ship by Austin
The Society gives a Christmas concert in a local church, which
usually contains a major choral work with carols and smaller pieces
to add to the festive nature of the occasion, and a Summer concert
of lighter music.
The Christmas Concert in December 2006 took
place in Capel Parish Church.
The slide show available below shows the choir
in action during that concert
under the direction of Katie Thomas for the first time in a public
performance.
Sceptics may be interested to note the number of eyes, contrary to
received wisdom, intently fixed on our conductor by members in all
parts during this performance.
The concert played to a packed church with
scarcely room for another body. The music was a delight to
perform and was very well received by the audience. This was
truly an occasion where the joy of making music together was brought
out by everyone taking part.
Please double click the star to see the show:
